Samuel Dicker, DVM, DACVECC

Dr. Sam Dicker is the founder and medical director of VSEC. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Skidmore College with Honors in Molecular Biology, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Dr. Dicker then completed a 1-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists, and then a 3-year residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists. His research during his residency focused on the use of lung ultrasound for detecting life-threatening signs of trauma in dogs. Dr. Dicker became board-certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care in 2019.

His special interests include point-of-care ultrasound, trauma, respiratory distress, cardiac emergencies, endocrine emergencies, sepsis, and teaching. Prior to founding VSEC, Dr. Dicker was the director of the intern veterinarian program at a large emergency and referral hospital in Brooklyn. He has published multiple articles on thoracic trauma and imaging, and routinely serves as a peer reviewer for academic journals.

In his spare time, Dr. Dicker is an avid guitarist, enjoys cooking, is an umpire for local baseball leagues, and loves to take his dog Mowgli for walks on the beach.
